We had a saying in the Navy that the fundamental law of negotiation is that you do it with a knee in his chest and a knife at his throat....almost hearts and minds.
My social circle includes some pretty diverse viewpoints.
Even to me after all this time here, it's a bit disconcerting to listen to a perfectly nice, very feminine and proper middle aged lady, who often voices her concerns about her grown children and the every day stuff of life, tell the story of the time she had to kill a man with her 9mm pistol, face to face as he grappled with her.
Sometimes, the direct method is the best way of getting your point across.
