Legal Defense funds for US Military

It's a sad state of affairs when military folks find themselves liable in a court for legitimate actions taken on the battlefield, actions taken to further the interests and safety of the United States, actions in accordance with general and lawful orders and normal combat practices.

Sometimes I swear we are our own worst enemies.

A colleague sent me a link today to one such case. I've added it to my sidebar in a fairly prominent place because I think it is important for people to be aware of what is happening. The military (rightly) does not make large bones of cases at trial. The case rightly should not be overly publicized until a decision is made, otherwise you could prejudice decisions. Unfortunately, most military folks are not in a position to hire a fancy lawyer to defend themselves, and also unfortunately, civilian leadership sometimes applies pressure to military structures in situations which they (the civvies) don't fully understand, or unscrupulously, for partisan political gain.

Anyway, check out http://www.defendthedefenders.org for yourself and see what you think.
